Data Management

What is an ETL?

ETL stands for Extract, Transform, and Load. These are database functions combined into one tool to pull data from one database and put it into another database. In Webex Campaign, the data can be extracted from different sources and imported into Webex Campaign for creating a Target Group.

  • Extract is the process of reading data from a database. In this stage, the data is collected, often from multiple and different types of sources.
  • Transform is the process of converting the extracted data from its previous form into the form it needs to be in so that it can be placed into another database. Transformation occurs by using rules or lookup tables or by combining the data with other data.
  • Load is the process of writing the data into the target database.

How it Works
In reality, a Target Group can be a single or a combination of multiple data sources. The data sources may have similar or different data columns. By using the ETL functions, the data sources are filtered according to the need and then imported into Webex Campaign to create the required Target Groups.

What is Segmentation and why do we use it?

Segmentation allows you to target your campaign to the right people that satisfy certain conditions, rather than targeting your entire audience. This helps you increase the chances of people engaging with your campaign, resulting in more efficient campaigns and improved return on investment (ROI).

Segmentation is a process of creating a target group from one or more data sources using SQL database queries. You can also select the required output headers from the list of headers available in the data source. Optionally, you can also add static headers and apply filter conditions on the segment.

Some uses of segmentation:

  • Create and download segments to analyze and visualize the data.
  • Create queries on multiple data sources to create segments.
  • Add filters on any attribute to create the required segment.
  • Copy the queried data to a Target Group and use it in deployments.
